This page shows some questions we have recently been asked that may be of interest to others. We cannot put to print opinions on bars or restaurants, shops etc.
Q. I cannot manage many steps or steep hills. What is the area like.
A. Could not be better !. First floor apartment so one flight with good handrail. You can go to promenade, beach, bars, restaurants, shops etc without any more sets of steps or hills.
Q. Are vegetarian ‘ready meals available’
A. Larger supermarkets at airport or towns are the same as at home. English food supermarket also at airport. You will need a car or 20€ return in taxi.
Q. I am a celiac. Availability of gluten free foods
A. As above. Small health food shop in Tias and at supermarkets by airport.
Q. Swarovski annual collector pieces. Availability and prices.
A. Yes. Released early in the year. 15% minimum discount. Ask us where.
Q. What are clothes prices like.
A. Expensive. Not much demand apart from shorts and t shirts.
Q. Can I watch football/F1/rugby etc
A. Yes, but afraid you will have to drink a beer as well !! Lots of nearby bars have sports.
Q. Mosquito’s love me. Are there many
A..Very few. Apparent after rain as a rule and not much of that!. Apartments have mozzie killers fitted.
Q. My wife is terrified of cockroaches, are there any
A. Good cleaners help keep them away! (and they like damp conditions). Never seen a cockroach in our apartments in over 6 years. Keep food sealed or in the fridge, wash up often and clean up any spills. If there’s nothing to eat other crawlies will not come in either! (same applies to ants)
Q. Want to eat ‘traditional’ occasionaly, any suggestions.
A. Go inland to get a feel eg. local fresh fish at El Golfo, superb Tapas bars in Tias (not all garlic and oil) Lanzarote style fish stew, potato, cassoule etc in villages, Local ‘barbeque style’ at Femmes or Playa Honda, ask us for details, too many to list. (a few in PdC)
Q. What do you do and where do you go when in Lanzarote.
A. Hire a car and get away from the tourist haunts!. Its a long way to go not to see the real Lanzarote. Driving is very easy, lots of old villages, lonely beaches, things to see and places to eat!
Q. Taking mum on holiday, she does not want to miss church.
A. Lanzarote is very catholic, but there is an English church in resort! (20% of ‘local residents’ are English)
